Dear Editor,
How is it that the city can afford to bail out a citizen with a
bad investment, but can not or will not pay the firefighters a
salary and pension suitable to raising and supporting a family?

The priorities seem to be strictly on building more structures and homes, but not to support the increasing population with emergency workers. Firefighters/paramedics are first responders and their knowledge can mean the difference between life and death. This is not an issue to be taken lightly.
As far as the breakdown for last year’s overtime/salaries, I don’t recall seeing a chart showing what was budgeted for payroll/benefits for the fire department.
It would be interesting to know about salaries/overtime/benefits for other Gilroy city departments as well, to get a better perspective on what is excessive and what is not.
