The City of Gilroy will have its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers, located at 7351 Rosanna St. Here are some of the upcoming items on the agenda.
No payday lending or check cashing moratorium to continue?
Staff is recommending that the City Council adopt an urgency ordinance to extend a temporary moratorium on the establishment, expansion or relocation of payday lending and check cashing businesses within the City of Gilroy. Council voted to establish the temporary moratorium at the March 15 regular Council meeting.
Gilroy Garlic Festival Association wants to improve Christmas Hill Park
The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association has submitted a Community and Memorial Contributions application to the City asking to plant 25 new trees in Christmas Hill Park and to improve the Mulberry Group Picnic Area. The work planting the new redwood, Chinese gum, oak and sycamore trees will take place between May 28 and June 9 and cost around $25,000. The renovation to the Mulberry Group Picnic Area would take place between June 10 and July 20 and is projected to cost $210,000. The $235,000 cost will be paid for by the Garlic Festival Association. The City is going to chip in and fund some new picnic tables according to its draft budget for fiscal year 2014.
Closed session negotiations
The City will move to closed session conferences with negotiators about wages, hours, benefits and working conditions at Monday night’s meeting. Representatives from AFSCME Local 101 (Municipal employees), Firefighters Local 2805 and the Gilroy Management Association (City employees designated as exempt), will continue to outline their memorandums of understanding with the City.
