GILROY – The Gilroy City Council will consider the following items of interest at its Monday, June 2, meeting:

• A study session with the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority.

The city does not currently belong to the authority, which uses special property taxes to purchase lands around the county for uses such as recreation, habitat, open space and agriculture.

However, the agency could become involved with the city’s future plans to offset the potential loss of certain agricultural lands from development of the 660 acres near the Gilroy Premium Outlets.

• A report on the downtown task force’s request to prohibit certain new land uses – such as used auto sales, tattoo parlors and bars and dance halls without food sales – in the downtown area until a land-use plan with new regulations for the area is complete. The Council could ask the city attorney to draft an ordinance reflecting the request.

• A request by Glen-Loma Group to annex 66.4 acres at 850 Day Road, which could be a site for future housing, the city’s second public high school and/or a parish and school. Glen-Loma representatives have asked the city to continue the matter until June 16.

• A recommendation to award a $2,612,753 bid for the city’s corporation yard improvement project to Gilroy’s Kent Construction.

• A recommendation to award a $2,983,146 bid for the city’s third fire station on Sunrise Drive to Gilroy’s Farotte Construction.

• Review of the proposed city flag design.

• A report from the city’s Youth Commission.

The study session begins at 6 p.m. with the regular meeting following at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, Gilroy City Hall, 7351 Rosanna St. For information, call 846-0204.
