Dear Editor;
On behalf of the community-based, pro bono Board of Directors of Bonfante Gardens, I would like to thank the Gilroy City Council for taking the leadership role in accepting the financial restructure of Bonfante Gardens and the issuance of RDOs in support of this effort.
These creative actions – with no cash from the city – have provided the key element for the survival of our community, non-profit, family educational/horticultural park. Future generations of area families will benefit from your actions, and Gilroy has retained a signature attraction.
Bonfante Gardens was created and largely funded by Michael Bonfante and then, in effect, gifted to our community. With the establishment of strong management and shortly, the finalization of the reduction of our debt from $70 million to $12.5 million, we believe that our park can be preserved as envisioned.
Thank you again for your support and your willingness to stand up for the long-term interests of the community while at the same time protecting the city’s finances.
Bob Kraemer,
president, Bonfante Gardens board of directors
