Coach Went Overboard in Getting Ejected
CALLER 1: I am calling in regards to the Gilroy basketball win over Salinas. I think you did a great job covering it, but I also think you left out a lot on Bud Ogden and what he did to disgrace the team during the game. I understand that he wanted a technical foul to motivate the team but his tirade of ‘f’ bombs after that first technical foul was a very shameful display for a coach who is supposed to be an example for these kids. The reason he got a second technical foul was for telling the ref to ‘f’ you. And he proceeded to do that seven more times after he was ejected from the game. So congratulations to the boys for winning but shame on you coach for your terrible display of sportsmanship and leadership for those kids.
GREEN PHONE:
During the course of a high school sports season, many teams will go through their share of adversity. While we are dedicated to giving our readers the most in-depth coverage as possible, we recognize that sometimes we must handle some situations more gently. In this case, we chose to focus on the win rather than on the coach’s actions.
We chose to come back several days later and report on the actions taken by the high school and the league when we became aware of them. It was an unfortunate incident that shouldn’t have happened.
Ogden accepted personal responsibility and hopefully he and the team can move on to better things for the rest of the season.
CALLER 2: As a champ you take any fight anywhere if you are in shape and the price is right.
GREEN PHONE: Thank you for your reaction to the news that Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero will be fighting in Denmark. It will be a challenge. Hopefully the gamble pays off for Guerrero.
