GILROY – A trial date was set Tuesday morning for Quintin Lamarcus Daye, the Gilroy youth basketball coach charged with raping a minor.

Daye, 44, who plead not guilty in April to two counts of felony sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14, will next appear in court at 9 a.m. on Oct. 14 in San Martin.

If convicted on the felony charges, Daye could face up to 24 years in prison. Sex crimes in California carry stiffer penalties when the victim is younger than 14 years old.

Daye is accused of sexually assaulting the girl several times between 1999 and 2002 starting when she was 13 years old. He has been free from county jail on $100,000 bail since his April 2 arrest by Gilroy police.

He helped coach a traveling Gilroy girls basketball team in 2001 and 2002.
