MORGAN HILL – Comcast Communications will throw open its doors soon to show off its new Morgan Hill call center. New employees, their families and friends, city officials and the general public are all invited to stop by on Saturday, Nov. 15, take a tour and learn about Comcast.

Andrew Johnson, vice-president of communications, said the company has two goals for the open house.

“We want to introduce Comcast to local businesses, residents and elected leaders in the Morgan Hill area,” Johnson said, “and we want employees to have the chance to show off where they work to family and friends.”

The new 60,000-square-foot facility is located in the Madrone Business Park across from Cochrane Plaza. Jobs offered, Johnson said previously, include customer account executive positions, customer service training and supervisory staff, operations staff and human resource employees.

Training for the cable company’s call center is going “really well” he said. So far 199 employees have been identified to work in the new facility. In addition, Johnson said, 30 employees from other facilities have asked to be transferred to Morgan Hill. He said he did not know how many Morgan Hill or South Valley residents are among the new employees.

“We were very pleased with the response from local applicants,” Johnson said. The company is still actively recruiting. “We’re coming down to the home stretch,” he said.

Johnson said Comcast’s training is intense and complete, with trainees undergoing classroom work, then moving out to sit with and watch seasoned employees for seven to ten days, a process called “nesting.” The process then, from classroom to nesting, is repeated.

The company also plans to introduce employees – and the community with friends and relatives in it’s service area – to its new service in other cities, channels that promote international and ethnic programming – European, Asian and Latino.

While the South Valley area is served by Charter Communications and Johnson said there are no plans for a change, Comcast does serve Los Gatos, parts of San Jose and elsewhere in the South Bay.

Johnson said the company will try to show the “down home, family” feel of the community during the ribbon cutting and open house, trying to take advantage of Morgan Hill’s small town, Main Street theme.

“We are excited to have established this call center in Morgan Hill,” Johnson. He hopes everyone will come to the open house, take a guided tour and have fun.
