We take a look at the stories that are coming to the web and in
the paper. This week: the Dispatch locates the elusive historic
statue of cowboy Casey Tibbs and students (and the school district)
ready for classes.
1. Where in the world is Casey Tibbs?
The whereabouts of Casey Tibbs, the iconic cowboy atop a bucking bronco that graced downtown Gilroy for years, is in question. Some people say he is in a backyard, while other residents claim he is the back of an automotive repair shop. The Dispatch finds out the true location of this historic statue and why there has been so much confusion as to who has him.
2. School back in session
Students have only a few fleeting days of summer remaining. Stores are packed with brightly colored displays hawking and parents and children are lining up to buy the latest Hannah Montana merchandise. We check in on how ready students and the Gilroy Unified School District – which has been putting in portables at many schools to ease congestion – are for the new year.
