THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should socioeconomic status be a driving force in deciding where to draw attendance boundaries delineating which students attend the new Christopher High and which will attend Gilroy High?

Yes: 4 No: 8

â–  I fear Gilroy will become the “undesirable high school” and if attendance is done by lottery system we will probably be leaving out low income families who are not aware they have a choice of high schools.

â–  No. I believe the “driving” force should be students legs (walking or biking). Get the kids out of their parent’s cars. This is a “green” school district isn’t it?

â–  Yes. We do not want a situation where one high school is looked at differently because of it’s students income level.

â–  No if Gilroy is an “area” school district, so should be Christopher High. Drawn appropriately, all socioeconomic areas should be covered.  (Cover east of Christopher High!)

â–  NO. In reality I think that a full lottery should be used to determine who goes to what high school. Only exceptions would be families with more than one child in high school and they should all go to the same one.
