THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should the Gilroy City Council adopt a policy that charges consumers a 25-cent fee for every grocery bag – paper or plastic – used?

Yes: 1 No: 11

â–  No. I understand the environmental issues but we pay for the bags in our grocery purchases, thus this becomes a tax.

â–  Ridiculous. Let’s do a better job of educating the public on how to handle bags, recycling and re-use.

â–  Yes. This might help our city’s budget considering many people still do not actively recycle.

â–  Nope. Let’s try positive incentives, like education, and if the store wants to charge, as they now give credit when you bring your own, let them. But don’t add another tax and bureaucracy and paperwork for businesses.

â–  NO! Plastic bags are not even 1 cent each. Why would we pay that?
