THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:
Given the $6.2 million city budget deficit, do you agree with the city administrator’s budget proposal that includes no layoffs at City Hall?
Yes: 5 No: 6
â– Yes. According to the Dispatch front page May 30, the deficit is down to $4.5 million. Hopefully the city can hang in there until car, retail and home sales improve to replenish the budget. I would not like to see anyone lose their jobs.
â– No. I wish it wasn’t needed but we need to balance our cuts across all line items. Nothing should be off the table.
■No. I think the city has to look long term with this economic downturn … they also have to look at ALL staff, including police and fire …
â– No. Unfortunately, in many companies, loyalty to particular people and/or positions cause it to become inefficient. It is important to evaluate the entire organization to reduce costs, and if it causes certain people to either be laid off or take monetary cuts, that is the price to pay for remaining solvent.
â– Wow, I can’t believe the city is that far behind in its budget … how can that be allowed?
