Regarding the one-year jail sentence for Sandra Arias in the hit-and-run accident that left Joshua Valdez severely injured, was justice served?
- Yes. I can’t imagine the pain and suffering Joshua’s family has endured and will endure. Everyone makes mistakes and one year in prison is a long time for someone that has never served time. Her life will be changed forever as well.
- Absolutely not sufficient. Horrible accident but driving away, not calling anonymous, not turning herself in, she deserves the highest degree of severity the law allows.
- No! Maybe it was an “accident” that she hit him, but driving away was a felony! She caused Joshua and his family pain and anguish – and his future is uncertain.
- I hate to second guess the judge and/or jury but on the surface it seems as if justice was not served at all. So no.
- NO! Her carelessness and disregard for human life cost Joshie and his family severe anguish. She also rendered Joshie’s future questionable not to mention the serious amounts of money for his health care. Their suffering is long term. Her sentence is insufficient.
- Yes. Unless we were in the sentencing, hearing the arguments on both sides, we have to trust that justice was served.
- No. She deserved more jail time and a community service requirement for running from the scene.
