In conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Gilroy Police Department will be hosting an April 26 event offering residents a chance to safely dispose of expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

Just shy of four decades after the Goldsmith family founded a fundraiser doling out money to Gilroy area youth, there’s still a smile in the flower enthusiast and Rotarian Joel Goldsmith’s face when supporters come rolling through the greenhouse with mixed containers brimming with multicolored annuals and veggies.

The American Legion Post 217 is hosting a Veterans Community Outreach program on Saturday, May 3 at the Gilroy Veterans Hall, 74 W. Sixth St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The inaugural Spring Classic bicycling event will be held May 10 at Specialized Bike Headquarters in Morgan Hill.

Gilroyan Rick Charvet wants to help local at-risk students when they’re down and out.
