Health officials launch ad campaign against sugary drink consumption
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department has launched an ad campaign urging parents to protect their children from sugary drinks and serve them water instead.
Saint Louise to offer community class on memory loss
Dr. Zepure Kouyoumdjian, neurologist and medical director of the Stroke Program at Saint Louise Regional Hospital, will present an open forum titled "Memory Loss and When to Seek Help" from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in the board room at the hospital, which is located at 9400 No Name Uno in Gilroy.

Extra patrols out for start of school year
With the school year beginning Tuesday, Aug. 21, the Gilroy Police Department will be devoting extra officers to enforce traffic safety in school zones, based on the Safe Routes to School federal grant the City obtained in 2008.

A cool new fundraiser will generate proceeds for the Gilroy Museum and the Friends of Gilroy Hot Springs – a local advocacy group working to preserve and restore a natural oasis tucked away in the mountainous heart of Henry Coe State Park.
Ferguson Road closed through November
The California Department of Transportation closed Ferguson Road in Gilroy on Aug. 13 and it will remain closed through early November. This continuous closure is necessary to install signals, widen shoulders and through lanes near the intersection of Highway 152 and Ferguson Road, according to a Caltrans press release.
