Extra patrols out for start of school year
With the school year beginning Tuesday, Aug. 21, the Gilroy Police Department will be devoting extra officers to enforce traffic safety in school zones, based on the Safe Routes to School federal grant the City obtained in 2008.

Ferguson Road closed through November
The California Department of Transportation closed Ferguson Road in Gilroy on Aug. 13 and it will remain closed through early November. This continuous closure is necessary to install signals, widen shoulders and through lanes near the intersection of Highway 152 and Ferguson Road, according to a Caltrans press release. Â
