CHICO – Greg Clink, a former Gavilan men’s basketball coach and graduate of Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, recently landed by far the biggest recruit in Chico State men’s basketball history, literally and figuratively, by signing 2008 Gilroy High graduate Jason Conrad to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Wildcats next season. Conrad is 7-feet-tall, and he was a preseason McDonald’s All-America candidate heading into his senior season.
“Jason is a post player who possesses a rare combination of size, speed and strength,” said Clink, who is entering his second season as coach of the Wildcats. “He has the ability to finish with power and finesse at the rim, and his rebounding and shot-blocking ability will provide a huge boost for us defensively. He’s also been taught the nuances of the game by well-respected coaches Bud Ogden, Jeremy Dirks and Bob Bramlett.”
Conrad, who originally signed with Portland State University out of high school, averaged 18 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks per game for the Mustangs in 2007-08 before sustaining a season-ending ankle injury. He averaged 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game as a junior.
Chico State is coming off an 8-19 season.
