Tour historic areas around town
Gilroy – Members of the Gilroy Historical Society lead free monthly walking tours of various historic areas around town. February’s tour is of the Bungalows (located throughout Gilroy’s historic district).
Those interested should meet 10am, Saturday, in front of the Gilroy Museum (195 Fifth Street). Reservations are recommended but not required.

Gavilan offers GED prep classes
Gilroy – Gavilan College is offering a free GED/ high school exit exam prep class in English and Spanish. Classes are offered from 9am to noon, at the South Valley School of Science and Global Studies, 385 100F Ave., every Saturday starting Feb. 3.

Author Dave Keane to Gilroy bookstore
Gilroy – Local author Dave Keane will sign and read his fourth book at 1pm, Saturday, at Barnes and Noble.
“The Headless Mummy” along with Joe Sherlock’s first three adventures will also be available on a just-released audio CD.

Gilroy – Gilroy High will hold an open house from 6:15 to 8:30pm, Tuesday. The GHS choir, band and cheerleaders will perform special presentations.

Spring-themed Fashion Show
Gilroy – Elks Lodge No. 1567 Fashion Show, “Springtime in the Rose Garden,” March 10. Show will feature fashions and accessories from local boutiques and stores. This event begins with no-host cocktails at 11am, luncheon at noon and fashion show from 1 to 2:30pm.
All proceeds benefit the Elks philanthropic efforts to help disabled children. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 10, from 10am to 1pm for $25 per person at the Elk’s Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Highway. Tickets will also be sold after Feb. 10 and may be picked up, Monday through Friday, 9am to 1pm at the lodge office.

Desperados present Sweetheart Social
Gilroy – The Desperados, a club formed in memory of Gary Filice, present their 8th annual Sweetheart Social, Feb. 10 at Coast Range Brewery 7050 Monterey St.
Social begins at 6pm, with social time and a silent auction until 7:30pm. Dinner and a raffle begin at 7:30pm followed by dancing.
Tickets are $35 per person, ticket price includes pasta with red sauce, tri-tip, salad, garlic bread and complimentary beverages.
All proceeds benefit the community and local youth, in memory of Gary Filice through the Gilroy Foundation.
