Gilroy – A diesel spill near the Sixth Street overpass stalled traffic for an hour and a half Tuesday. As a construction truck pulled out of a job site, its fuel tank was punctured, spilling 15 gallons of diesel onto Gilman Road. Firefighters received the call about 9am, and dispatched a fire truck to the scene. Gilroy police helped redirect traffic.
The spill was the second of its kind in the past month, and one in a series of slippery highway mishaps reported by The Dispatch this year. In August, a truck driver smashed into a message board on Highway 101 near Sixth Street, rupturing the truck’s fuel tank. An eight and a half hour cleanup ensued. Three months earlier, in May, a freight truck spilled 12 gallons onto Highway 152, closing two lanes of traffic for two and a half hours.
