Police on Wednesday arrested man after he allegedly tried to steal wires from city streetlights, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
Around 8:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to an area in front of Walgreens drug store on First Street for a report of a man on a bicycle trying to remove electrical wires and copper lines from a light pole. A witness then saw the man, later identified as 51-year-old transient Kirk Tessaro, cross the street and attempt to steal copper pipe fittings from a water tank, police said.
When police arrived, Tessaro attempted to flee on his bicycle, but officers pulled him to the ground. Tessaro resisted but was eventually handcuffed and later booked on suspicion of felony vandalism, possession of burglar’s tools, theft and a probation violation.
