Dear Editor:

I was incredibly offended by the Santa Clara County Supervisors decision to pass a resolution against military action in Iraq. Following the lead of the Berserkly City Council and the endless parade of Hollywood pinheads, our county leaders saw fit to weigh in on an issue that has nothing whatsoever to do with the office to which they were elected.

I am certain that the citizens of Santa Clara County are not opposed 4-0 against taking action against a rogue dictatorship bent on killing Americans. I agree with Supervisor Don Gage (the only Republican on the board) on abstaining on issues not county related.

Shame on the supervisors for bringing discredit to their office. Instead of taking care of the budget crisis facing the county, these peaceniks, unable to face the budget war on the home front, decide to divert attention overseas. Well, it won’t work, nor will it work for them to raise taxes under the guise of the so-called Vehicle License Fees.

Both the City Council of Gilroy and the County Supervisors have lobbied the Democrat-controlled legislature successfully to TRIPLE the amount you pay every year to register your vehicles. Lucky for us, the Republicans are going to fight this one to the death. A referendum is already in the works and the Dems will have to find another way to take our hard-earned money. Unlike Gov. Gray Davis who said that the problem is a lack of revenue (taxes), to that I quote the words of a wise economist, “It’s the spending stupid.”

If the supervisors want to do something valuable for the citizens’ of Santa Clara County, they need to cut spending, period. If you ain’t got it, don’t spend it. We didn’t elect you exercise your right to free speech on matters of national security. Perhaps you should follow Don Gage’s lead and keep your collective mouths shut.

Clear enough?
