The Gilroy Police responded to a number of crimes recently, including a hefty handful of auto burglaries.
Auto burglary
-An unknown suspect, April 20 at 9 p.m. on Nicole Way stole $685 in property from a Ford truck. The suspect is still at large.
-Unknown suspects, April 22 at 9:30 p.m. on Kern Avenue used an unknown means to break the front right passenger window to the victim’s vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Corolla. The suspects then entered the vehicle and removed a purse and wallet. The suspects are still at large.
-An unknown suspect, April 23 at 2:15 p.m. on Monterey Street broke the driver’s side window of a 2002 Audi and stole $1,190 worth of paintball supplies. The suspect is still at large.
-An unknown suspect, April 23 at 7 p.m. on Fourth Street smashed the window of a 2011 Hyundai and stole a Coach wallet along with a number of gift cards and credit cards.
-An unknown suspect, April 24 at 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of Church and Fourth streets broke the front passenger window of a 2001 Yukon and stole a stereo valued at $235. The suspect is still outstanding.
-An unknown suspect, April 25 at 1 a.m. on West Sixth Street broke the front passenger window of 2000 Ford Expedition and stole a stereo valued at $200.
-An unknown suspect, April 24 at 9:30 p.m. on Rosanna Street smashed the driver’s window of a 2002 Escalade and stole an iPod, the front grill, the headlights, the back window and a Tonneau cover. Cost of the damage, coupled with the value of the stolen items totals $3,300.
Weapons
-Isaac Gonzales, 25, April 22 at 12:53 a.m. near the intersection of Alexander and Old Gilroy Streets was arrested for possession/control of a loaded semi-auto .25 caliber firearm after it was located where Gonzales was seated as a passenger in a car. Gonzales was on parole and also lied about his name. The case has been forwarded to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Stealing money from a coin machine
-An unknown suspect, April 22 at 6:16 a.m. entered a business on Wren Avenue and used some sort of tool to punch the lock of a coin machine. The suspect gained access to the machine and removed the money before fleeing. He stole $30 in change from the coin dispenser, $380.75 in quarters and $110.00 in $1 bills.
Residential burglary
-An unknown suspect, April 12 at 6 p.m. on Church Street entered a residence that was previously boarded up after a structure fire and stole approximately $24,000 in various computer and office equipment, camera equipment, cash, jewelry, gaming systems and sporting equipment.
Grand theft
-An unknown suspect, April 22 at 5:18 p.m. on Arroyo Circle stole three Coach bags worth $1,090 from a black Honda. The suspect is still at large.
Forged prescription
-On April 24 at 12:15 p.m., a suspect attempted to pass a forged prescription and fled before police arrival. The suspect was located near the area of U.S. 101 and Leavesley Road and arrested for providing false information to police.
Assault
-On April 22 at 7:45 p.m., a victim met with the suspect in the parking lot of the Chevron Gas station on Camino Arroyo to “pay him back some money he owed,” according to the police blotter. The suspect immediately attacked the victim upon arriving and caused some bruising and redness to the victim’s neck. The suspect left prior to police arrival.
Drunk in public
-Lazaro Barrios, April 23 at 12:41 a.m. on West Sixth Street for being drunk in public.
Petty theft
-A female suspect, April 24 at 4 p.m.. attempted to conceal $232 in items that she shoplifted in her purse from a store on Camino Arroyo in Gilroy. The suspect was placed under citizen’s arrest by the store’s Loss Prevention team.
