Crime in Gilroy

Here’s your weekly digest of criminal happenings in Gilroy, including multiple auto burglaries, possession of a controlled substance, recovery of a stolen vehicle and credit card fraud.
Multiple auto burglaries
On Dec. 17 between 4 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth Street and Gourmet Alley, an unknown suspect entered a locked vehicle and removed a yellow chop saw valued at $400, two other saws valued at $200, and a socket set valued at $30. According to the Gilroy Police Department, the method of entry is unknown.
A rental car was burglarized on Dec. 18 between 1 p.m. and 1:38 p.m. just outside the Ecko Unltd store at the Gilroy Premium Outlets. Unknown suspects smashed the window of a rental car, making off with $1,500 in cash, a $500 black digital camera, four Australian passports and more than $1,000 in other property. The GPD says the unknown suspects are still at large.
On Dec. 18 between 12 p.m. and 2:55 p.m., also outside the Ecko Unltd store at the Gilroy Premium Outlets, unknown suspects burglarized a rental car and smashed a window, making off with two iPads valued at $1,600, a $1,600 laptop computer, a Singapore passport, four backpacks and more than $2,000 worth of additional property.
Credit card fraud
On Dec. 17 at 11:56 a.m., the Gilroy Police Department received a report that an unknown suspect purchased more than $10,784 worth of various products using fraudulent credit cards between October and November, according to police records.
Possession of a controlled substance
On Dec. 19 at 2:30 a.m., 22-year-old Casey Reis was arrested after officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of an undisclosed business on Monterey Road. Reis was in possession of methadone pills that were not prescribed to her, according to police reports. Ian Bambrick, 22, a passenger in Reis’ car, had more than an ounce of marijuana in his possession. Both Reis and Bambrick were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Middle school student found with marijuana
On Dec. 19 at 12:35 p.m. at Solorsano Middle School, a campus supervisor at Solorsano Middle School discovered an undisclosed amount of marijuana on an unidentified student at the school, located at 7121 Grenache Way.
Stolen vehicle recovered
On Dec. 13 at 8 a.m., GPD recovered a grey 2006 Nissan Pathfinder on the 1400 block of Blackwing Way. According to police records, the vehicle was reported stolen out of Santa Clara County.
