Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen is looking for some creative assistance from high school seniors in the county.
Rosen’s first annual “Justice For All” mural design contest calls for teenagers to create an original piece of artwork that will provide a soothing office space environment where attorneys meet with young children who have been sexually assaulted.
“We want this space to be as comfortable as possible under these circumstances,” Assistant District Attorney Terry Harman said. “We want the mural to be colorful, creative and convey a message of peace and hope.”
The winning student designer will be awarded $500 and have their signed creation painted on the walls of the special office space. There will also be a $300 prize for second place and a $200 prize for third place.
“Providing a child and a parent a safe, comfortable place that isn’t scary helps them calm down and lessens the anxiety,” said Kasey Halcon, director of Santa Clara County’s Victim Witness Assistance Program.
Entries, which must be submitted to the Office of the District Attorney by May 17 with winners announced May 31, should be no larger than 8.5 by 14-inches and must be original designs with no copyright or trademark images.
Envelopes should be addressed to: Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Mural Design Contest – Justice for All Award, Terry Harman, Assistant District Attorney, 70 West Hedding Street West Wing, San Jose, CA 95110.
Contest rules limit one entry per student artist. The high school senior must live and attend school in Santa Clara County. The mural design should cover one or two walls of the room. The contest winner will not pain the mural, but the design will be closely followed by a professional contractor.
