Gilroy – The Desperados, needing a win to remain in Men’s CCC League title contention Monday night at Las Animas Park, responded to the challenge with a 9-7 upset of Temple Inland.
Lorenzo Nino hit a two-run home run and Phil Clark and Ron Erskine provided three hits each as the Desperados left the league with a four-team tie at 3-2 entering next week’s final games.
The Desperados, Temple Inland, Pro Electric and Dutchman’s Pizza will take to field Monday with a two-team tie for first assured. Dutchman’s and Desperados play at 6:30pm, Temple Inland and Pro Electric at 8:50, the winners destined for a playoff contest the following week.
Jeremy Page drilled a home run, triple and single, Dave Signorotti three singles for Temple Inland.
Dutchman’s Pizza escaped with a 20-18 win over Campbell’s Towing in eight innings. Dutchman’s forced an extra frame by turning a double play after Campbell’s had loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out in a tied game. Rick Trujillo’s fourth hit of the game was worth two runs in a four-run Dutchman’s eighth. Jason Trujillo homered, doubled and added two singles for the winners. Sammy Avila poked a three-run homer and Chris Miceli and Pete Gavitte each added four hits for Campbell’s.
Roy Escudero went 3-for-3 and Mike Sandoval scored three runs to key a 12-7 Pro Electric win over the Slammers. Ken Hopf went 3-for-3 for the Slammers.
California Silk Screening earned the second-half Men’s CC title with an 11-8 win over the VFW Vets Monday at Gavilan Sports Park.
