Gilroy Police nabbed a suspect who held up the McDonald’s at the Outlets, even though he changed his clothes and tried to escape by bicycle.
Albert Lopez, 19, allegedly held up the McDonald’s at 8390 Arroyo Circle at 12:46 p.m. Wednesday, pointing a handgun at the workers and demanding cash, according to a Gilroy Police report.
Within minutes, police, aided by two search dogs and a helicopter, spotted him near Costco. Employees had described what he was wearing but he was dressed differently when they stopped him. Luckily, a witness had seen him strip off the other outfit.
Officers found the clothes and the gun. He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of robbery.
“This case is a great example of community members and the police working together to get a very dangerous person off of the streets and into custody. It is through partnerships like this that we can make Gilroy a safer place to live, work and play,” wrote Sgt. Royce Heath.
