SCVWS hires assistant operating officer

San Jose – Ann Draper, a seasoned administrator with more than 20 years of planning and managerial experience, has been named assistant operating officer for Watersheds at the Santa Clara Valley Water District, Santa Clara County’s water resource management agency.

Draper is overseeing watershed development, habitat conservation and riparian restoration plans throughout Santa Clara County.

“I believe that a critical factor for the health and economic well-being of the county is water and, at its foundation, an adequate and clean supply of water,” said Draper.

Draper said she looks forward to working with the community to ensure a thriving Santa Clara County, now and in the future.

“Ann’s planning background is a great asset to the Water District and will help us ensure that future and ongoing projects are sensitive to the environment, wildlife and communities in Santa Clara County,” said Jim Fiedler, Watersheds chief operating officer.

Prior to joining the Water District, Draper was planning director for the Santa Clara County Planning Office, supervising long-range policy planning and implementing strategies, including land-use and zoning administrative functions.

In addition to her five years with the planning office, Draper’s extensive experience includes 10 years with the City of Sunnyvale, 10 years with the City of Fremont, and three years with the City of Santa Clara.

Draper earned a bachelor’s degree in geography with a minor in environmental studies from the University of California-Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree in urban planning from San Jose State University.
