Auto burglary solved
MORGAN HILL – Three male students, ages 16 and 17, from Live Oak High School were arrested Monday afternoon on charges of auto burglary and possession of stolen property resulting from an auto burglary at Abbott Laboratories.
At 2:35 p.m. on Monday officers responded to a report of an auto burglary in the parking lot of Abbott Labs and found the victim’s vehicle’s window broken and items missing. Abbott Labs’ security employees were able to provide a license plate similar to the suspect’s vehicle. Officers found a match with a similar vehicle registered in Morgan Hill.
About an hour later, Officer Scott Silva saw the vehicle on East Dunne Avenue occupied by youths matching the description given by the witnesses. Officers stopped the vehicle and recovered some of the stolen property inside.
Officers have identified a fourth Live Oak student and believe a fifth suspect, Luis Mariano Hernandez, 18, may also be associated with the burglary. Both are still at large.
Mariano was not in the vehicle at the time it was stopped by officers. Police believe the suspects arrested are associated with other auto burglaries in the area and are hoping the arrests will deter future incidents. The police are withholding the names of the juveniles arrested because of their age. The three teens were cited and released.
