neighboring family while shopping for their own meals. Food For
Families, the nonprofit program that gives food banks a chance to
fill their pantry needs, is seeking non-perishable food and cash
donations. This is the last day that Food For F
amilies donation bins can be found at 132 Raley’s, Nob Hill
Foods and Food Source locations throughout California, New Mexico
and Northern Nevada, including the Nob Hill location on First

‘Holiday Snap’

Information night at GHS
GILROY – Gilroy High School welcomes the class of 2007 and transfer students at its information night on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gilroy High School Theater. Artists who teach on exhibit
GILROY – Creative Catalyst is an exhibition currently on display at the Gavilan College Gallery, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., featuring artwork by art educators from Gavilan College and local high schools. Artists exhibiting artwork are Dan Dwyer, Jane Edberg, KC Gonzalez, Jack Johnson, Arthur Juncker, Tim Kelly, Jacqueline Kurtt, Jane Rekedal, Sylvia Rios, Moisés Roizen, Louise Roy and Arturo “r2row” Rosette. Artworks include ceramics, photography, drawings, paintings, fabric, murals, wood and mixed media. The exhibition is on display now through Jan. 25. Learn to arrange flowers
GILROY – On Saturday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Linda Estill, Gilroy Community Services instructor, will present the basics of floral arranging and design. The new class is designed for those who would like to create attractive bouquets and centerpieces using fresh cut flowers and foliage. Students pay $28 for a class fee (non-residents $33), and an additional $10 the day of class will cover the cost of materials. The class meets in the Wheeler Community Center Craft room. Garlic Festival Art Contest
GILROY – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc., is now accepting entries for the 2003 Art Poster Contest. A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival. In addition, the first-place winner shall receive one of each souvenir food item produced with their artwork. The second-place winner will receive $400 and third place will get $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high-quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 25th Annual Garlic Festival on July 25, 26 and 27. The deadline for entries is Feb. 4, 2003, and winners will be notified by Feb. 18. Things That Go Bump
MORGAN HILL – Have you ever wondered about the wildlife that can’t wait until the sun goes down? Join W.E.R.C., the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center, for a free evening program at the Historic Machado School located in Morgan Hill. This program will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. Participants will be introduced to some of the Bay Area’s local nocturnal wildlife. Some of our live educational ambassadors will be at the program to demonstrate the wide variety of wildlife this area enjoys. The program is free, space is limited, and reservations are required. Hot meals for seniors
MORGAN HILL – The Morgan Hill Nutrition Center provides a hot meal at noon time for all seniors (age 60 and older) and socialization five days a week, Monday through Friday. A suggested contribution of $1.75 is asked for ages 60 and older, and $5 for guests under 60. Any senior, regardless of income, is welcome. Volunteer Case Aides needed
BELMONT – The Child Abuse Prevention Center is offering an opportunity to join one of its Volunteer Case Aide programs, which assist children and their families by providing services requested by county social workers. All volunteers are fingerprinted and DMV screened. The Child Abuse Prevention Center is also recruiting Speakers Bureau volunteers to teach child abuse prevention and personal safety to children and adults.

Pasta Luncheon
