Make a difference in the GATE program
GILROY – There will be a GATE parents meeting at the GUSD District Office on Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. They will discuss enrichment opportunities inside and outside the classroom for Middle School GATE/accelerated classes.
All (GATE) parents are welcome to attend. The group is looking for several community members, parents and teachers who can help with enrichment classes next school year. Everyone’s input will help in setting up these classes. Details: Dr. Joe Guzicki at jo*********@gu**.us.
Blue and gold awards
GILROY – The Gilroy Exchange Club will honor local public safety officers including the Gilroy and Morgan Hill Fire and Police Departments.
In addition, Bob Kraemer will be honored with a Book of Golden Deeds plaque for his many years of service to Gilroy Rotary, Gilroy Community Foundation, Gilroy Unified School District School Board and Bonfante Gardens Board.
The Annual Blue and Gold Awards luncheon will be held at the IFDES Hall on Old Gilroy Street on Wednesday, May 14, at noon. Tickets are $15 each for lunch and dessert. Details:

Mix it up
GILROY – The Gilroy Hispanic Chamber of Commerce May mixer will take place on Thursday, May 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey Road. Build the arts
GILROY – On Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. local performing and visual art lovers will have an opportunity to attend an arts conference at the Strand Theater.
Charles Morales, Gilroy City Councilman, will speak on the “politics of art – building a strong political voice.” Christina Goodney, from Young Audiences Silicon Valley, will focus on the role of non-profits in the infusion of arts into the educational curriculum. Diem Jones will talk about the role of his agency, Arts Council Silicon Valley, in Santa Clara Valley.
Local art groups will all have an opportunity to inform the conference about their activities and roles in the community. Registration forms are available at the Gilroy Visitor’s Bureau, the Gilroy camber of Commerce and the Silva Agency. Details:
