GILROY – The Salvation Army needs volunteer help for the holiday season. Volunteers are needed to:
• Help package food boxes for Thanksgiving and Christmas and assist on distribution days; Monday, Nov. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 18. Volunteers interested in helping this way can contact Major Carlos Gonzzatti at

Drought relief deadline
The USDA Farm Service Agency has been accepting applications from local ranchers for pasture losses that occurred during the 2002 drought year. The deadline to file an application is Friday,
Nov. 21.
This program may offer additional benefits beyond those paid on a per-head basis under the previous Livestock Compensation Program, depending on calculated feed needs and pasture losses.

Get dessert, too
GILROY – J.R. Brewski’s in Gilroy has teamed with Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose for the holidays. From Friday, Nov. 28, until Sunday, Dec. 22, J.R. Brewski’s will donate $1 of the purchase price for each of its special Cream Cheese Chocolate Decadence sold.
Second Harvest Food Bank assists people who are hungry in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

Join the Bonfante board
GILROY – Bonfante Gardens has an opening on its board of directors. The unexpired term is for a period of one to one-and- one-half years and may be renewed afterward.
Position includes overseeing of park operations in a way that will ensure financial stability, working with operational partners on future plans and preserving the park as an asset to the city of Gilroy.
Applicants should have a strong business background with the ability to see the “big picture” and work with other board members on special projects as needed.
