– The alumni of the Gilroy High School Chamber Singers are
looking for all current and former members of the choral ensemble
to participate in this year’s scholarship concert. The concert
rehearsal will be on Saturday, Aug. 16, with the performance to
follow that evening.

GILROY – The alumni of the Gilroy High School Chamber Singers are looking for all current and former members of the choral ensemble to participate in this year’s scholarship concert. The concert rehearsal will be on Saturday, Aug. 16, with the performance to follow that evening. Solo and small group numbers will be showcased at this year’s event.

Anyone interested in participating should contact the Chamber Singers Alumni promptly. A participation fee of $5 for current students enrolled at Gilroy High and $10 for alumni is asked. A donation of $5 per audience member will be asked at the door. The concert venue will be announced soon. All monies collected will go directly into the 2004 Chamber Singers Scholarship Fund. Bid for treasures at Goodwill

GILROY – Goodwill has introduced an in-store auction for many of its donated specialty items which will take place through Saturday, July 12. Items include a vintage zither, a carved and inlaid wooden bench, a blue Louis Vitton purse, a “Here’s Liberace” LP and more. They are displayed under glass in the store.

Shoppers may inspect the bid record and make their own bid anytime during the auction.

“Our donors receive a tax deduction, and shoppers have a great experience, all to help those less fortunate, and recycling is always a great idea,” manager of the store Maria Delgado said.

All proceeds remain with Goodwill in Silicon Valley to pay for vocational training, job placement and other career services for the disabled and job-disadvantaged. Details: 842-9941 or visit the store at 845 First St.

Football camp for kids

GILROY – The Myles Brinson fundamental football camp will be held for kids ages 7 to 14 from Monday to Friday, July 7 to 11. The camp will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Gilroy High School. Those interested can contact Sherida Brinson at 846-5918 or register the first day of the camp. The cost is $50, and T-shirts are provided. There will also be daily speakers during the program.

Volunteer to deliver lunches

GILROY – Live Oak Adult Day Services, at 651 West Sixth St., is in need of a volunteer to pick up their elderly clients’ packaged lunches from the Senior Center one block away and bring them to the center at 11 a.m. every Tuesday. The whole procedure takes about 15 minutes. If you can help, call 847-5491.

Enjoy concerts in the park

GILROY – Enjoy Gilroy Community Services’ free concerts in the park this summer. On Sunday, July 13, take in the sounds of Mariachi California. The Corvairs will bring their 1950s and ’60s tunes Sunday, Aug. 10. The concerts take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the amphitheater at Christmas Hill Park. The amphitheater includes a concrete dance floor in front of the elevated stage and tiered bench seating. Details:

It’s your turn to compost

MORGAN HILL – Turn a mountain of leaves and a bag of grass into humus. Learn the basics of backyard and worm composting in a fun and informative classroom experience at a free class on Wednesday, July 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mount Madonna YMCA.
