St. Youth ages 5 to 10 will be at 4:30 p.m., 11 to 14 at 6 p.m. and
15 to 18 at 7:30 p.m. Arrive 15 minutes prior to audition time,
prepare to sing the chorus of an up-tempo song from the 1950s or
1960s a cappella. They will teach a dance combination, so wear
comfortable shoes and clothing you can dance in. There will be no
Saturday rehearsals and performances will be in August at the

Drivers hurt in accident

MORGAN HILL – A 1995 GMC sports utility vehicle that rolled over Monday at about 8:05 a.m.

The SUV’s driver, a 16-year-old girl, turned north from Diana Avenue onto Hill Road and into the path of a southbound, late-model silver Toyota van driven by a man known only as “Joe.”

The male driver was carrying no identification and was not the van’s registered owner, CHP Officer T.C. Clark said. He was taken by medical helicopter to Valley Medical Center in San Jose. The girl was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy as a precaution.

Hazardous scare

SAN MARTIN – A section of Murphy Avenue near the South County Airport in San Martin was closed for 10 minutes at 11:28 a.m. Monday morning while county hazardous materials specialists responded to some spilled paint on the side of the road.

The response by county HAZMAT was typical for a call of an unknown substance on a road, but cleanup was quickly taken over by a county road crew after it was learned the material was only paint.

Scholarship deadline

GILROY – The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program offers $4,000 in college scholarships to qualified high school seniors graduating in 2003 and entering their first year of college in the fall of 2003. One $2,000 scholarship, one $1,000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships will be awarded. To qualify, a student must be a Gilroy resident and/or attending a Gilroy Unified School District school; have an excellent record of experience in community and extracurricular activities; have career goals in business, industry or education; and graduate high school in June, 2003 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two years. Application packets are available at the Chamber of Commerce. Completed application packets are due by or before 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11. Details: 842-6437.

Wine tasting experience

GILROY – Solis Winery will hold its Cabernet Sauvignon Vertical Tasting on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Taste 1998,1999 and 2000 Solis Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Solis Winery, 3920 Hecker Pass Highway, will be tasting its 2001 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the barrel and guests can purchase the same wine. Details: 847-6306.

Celebrate Buddhist culture

MORGAN HILL – The 43rd annual Morgan Hill Haru Matsuri and 7th annual Northern California Taiko Expo will take place Sunday, April 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Buddhist Community Center. Property taxes due

SAN JOSE – The second installment of the 2002/2003 property taxes will be delinquent if not paid by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 10. At that time, a 10 percent penalty and a $10 cost will be added. Tax installment payments should be mailed, along with the second installment stub, to the Tax Collector’s Office, 70 West Hedding St., San Jose, CA 95110. Details: 808-7900.
