Parenting step by step

GILROY – Attend the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP), a seven-week program offering parents of school-age children a realistic and practical approach to meeting the challenges of raising children in today’s world. Tryout for Shockers

Tee off in the dark

GILROY – St. Mary School is holding a Nite Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Short Course at Santa Teresa Golf Course in San Jose on Bernal Road. Social hour will be at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and shotgun start will be at 7:30 p.m. Cost to participate is a $75 donation and guests’ barbecue tickets are $20.

Learn about rock art

GILROY – The Bay Area Rock Art Research Association (BARARA) and the American Rock Art Research Association (ARARA) will sponsor a workshop at Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park, on Watsonville Road after Redwood Retreat Road, on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be an opportunity for teachers to learn to develop a classroom module utilizing the rock art and interpretive information at the park. CMAP seeks nominations

GILROY – Community Media Access Partnership, the community TV station for Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista, is currently looking for board members to fill three elected positions.

CMAP’s board of directors is comprised of city and school representatives, as well as interested residents, who make crucial decisions as to how CMAP is run. CMAP’s board meets the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in Hollister, Gilroy and San Juan Bautista.

Interested candidates must be CMAP members in good standing and must submit a nomination by petition form (available at the CMAP office and online at www.mycmap.org), obtaining 10 signatures of current CMAP members. This form, as well as a candidate statement (200 words maximum) must be delivered to CMAP by Thursday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m.

Bonfante Lifestyle Event

GILROY – Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park will host the Home, Garden and Lifestyle Event Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 21. More than 100 vendors will be present in the park displaying products and services for homeowners, gardeners and families that celebrate how we live and play in the South Valley area.

Coyote park construction

GILROY – The county road which travels through Coyote Lake County Park will be closed from the campgrounds to the dam face from Sept. 15 through December. This closure will not affect camping at Coyote Lake, but will limit customers wishing to travel to the dam. A one-lane section of the road is being widened by the County of Santa Clara Roads Department.

Right bed, wrong husband

GILROY – Pintello Comedy Theater closes its current show, “Right Bed, Wrong Husband,” Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12 and 13, at 8 p.m. The final performance will also feature American Sign Language interpreters, Aundrea Love and Kim Peterson. They have rehearsed with the cast to get the comedic timing down for all the jokes.

AAUW brunch

MORGAN HILL – The annual fall membership brunch for the Morgan Hill Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Morgan Hill House at Villa Mira Monte, 17860 Monterey Road. Tickets for ‘Blithe Spirit’

MORGAN HILL – South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Blithe Spirit,” a farce in three acts. Boat-launch ramp closed

MORGAN HILL – Anderson Lake County Park, Santa Clara County’s largest and most popular boating lake, closed its temporary launch ramp for the season Wednesday.

With lake levels near their lowest point, construction on the permanent four-lane launch ramp will resume in October, once regulatory approvals are in place. The new ramp is scheduled for completion by Dec. 31.

Float tube fishing will still be allowed and non-powered boats can be hand launched from Woodchopper Flat.

Anderson Lake County Park, located in Morgan Hill just east of U.S. 101, is the site of Santa Clara County’s largest reservoir.
