Gilroy – Crews from PG&E will shut down power along a portion of Fifth Street Sunday morning as part of a project to take down and bury power lines.
The work, scheduled to take place between 7am and noon, will span the length of Fifth Street from the alley behind Garlic City Coffee & Tea across Monterey Street to the alley by the railroad tracks.
PG&E workers will direct traffic while the traffic signal at Fifth and Monterey streets is shut down.
City staff encourage drivers to avoid the area while crews work on power lines.
Caltrain fare increase discussion slated
Gilroy – Caltrain is holding a public meeting Wednesday, March 23 to discuss potential fare increases and service cutbacks, including the Baby Bullet commuter service between San Jose and San Francisco.
The meeting will be held at Santa Clara City Hall, 1500 Warburton Ave, at 6pm.
Coyote Valley Task Force meets
Gilroy – The Coyote Valley Task Force will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday at 151 West Mission Street in Room 202 A and B (just west of San Jose City Hall).
The meeting will focus on the progress of the environmental review process.
Breathe easy with Better Breathers
Gilroy – Saint Louise Regional Hospital, 9400 No Name Uno, will host a Better Breathers Club Meeting featuring “Respiratory Therapy” in the boardroom on Thursday, starting at 11:30am. Respiratory Therapist Susan Riddell will speak on inhalers, breathing techniques and breathing exercises.
The event is free, but spaced is limited so reservations are required.

Saint Louise volunteer orientation
Gilroy – Saint Louise Regional Hospital will hold a volunteer orientation at 4pm March 29 in the hospital board room. Volunteers are needed in many areas of the hospital including, the gift shop, patient services and skilled nursing. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and willing to work at least two to three shifts per month.
The application process includes an interview and free tuberculosis skin test.

Waterfall wonders at Uvas Park
Morgan Hill – The Greenbelt Alliance is offering a guided hike to the beautiful waterfalls of Uvas Canyon County Park, near Morgan Hill.
This moderate 3.25-mile hike features spectacular views of little-known waterfalls, including the three-tiered Triple Falls. This hike makes for a lovely Sunday outing for the whole family.
The hike will be led by Greenbelt Outings leader Gael Erickson, and accompanied by Michele Beasley, Greenbelt Alliance South Bay Field Representative. The hike – from 10am to 3pm Sunday – is open to the public.
