GILROY – Actor/Icon Erik Estrada will join CHP Officers during the “Car Seat Inspection and Installation Fair” on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Gilroy Crossing Shopping Center, 6705 to 6975 Camino Arroyo. CHP Officers will inspect, install, and, if necessary, replace car seats for local residents. New car seats for participants who have broken, outdated, or recalled car seats are being donated by 21st Century Insurance. Free of charge. Service is first come, first serve basis.

GILROY – The Gilroy Economic Development Corporation, in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Workforce Investment Network, Career Advancement Solutions and Gavilan College Small Business Development Center, present ‘Workplace Skills in a Retail Environment’ from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, at the SBDC office in the Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., Building E.
This free eight-hour training course will help students learn the basics of working in retail. The instructor will review working in a retail environment, principles of customer service, work attitudes and ethics, business communication, dealing with difficult people, handling money, cashiering and scanning practices.

GILROY – Gavilan College Small Business Development Center will host ‘Basic Bookkeeping for the Small Business Owner’ from noon to 3 p.m., and ‘Starting Your Own Business’ from 5:30 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the Dry Creek Village 8351 Church St., Bldg. E.
Get control of your business in ‘Basic Bookkeeping …’ with basic, written (no computers), double entry bookkeeping system, along with simple filing and record keeping techniques. Business banking, auto and petty cash records and working with an accountant will also be touched on.
Learn how to get started the right way with ‘Starting Your Own …’ an overview of marketing essentials, produce selection, business goal setting, legal issues, licenses required, risk evaluation, bookkeeping, financing, and management issues.

GILROY – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center presents “QuickBooks 2004,” a three-workshop series, on Thursdays, Aug. 12, 19 and 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the SBDC office, located in the Dry Creek Village, 8351 Church St., Building E.
QuickBooks 2004 is one of the most widely used small business accounting software programs available to small business owners. Learn to manage and reconcile business accounts, write and print checks, keep track of income and expenses, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, inventory, payroll, purchase orders, estimating and many other bookkeeping tasks that are relevant to run a successful business.
Please feel free to bring your laptop with QuickBooks 2004 already installed. Cost is only $90 payable in advance.

Scouts wanted for TV
GILROY – Are you a Girl Scout or a Boy Scout in Gilroy, Hollister or San Juan Bautista? Want to make your own TV show and earn a Scout Badge at the same time? Then join CMAP (Community Media Access Partnership) for ‘Scout Week at CMAP.’
Fee of $100 includes 30 hours of workshops and activities, a Scout Week T-shirt, VHS copy of Scout Week Shows, daily lunch and an eight-week membership to CMAP.
