– The holiday season and music go hand in hand. The Gilroy High
School Choirs will be presenting their annual Winter Concert
Tuesday and Wed-nesday, Dec. 17 and 18 in the Gilroy High School
Theater. Both nights will begin at 7:30 p.m. The doors will open
for seating at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purcha

Street. All seats are $5. The cost will help defray the costs of
the Winter Concerts.
‘Come In From the Cold’
GILROY – New Hope Community Church Fine Arts Department presents “Come In From the Cold”, a Christmas season musical/drama. Show times are Wednesday and Friday, Dec. 18 and Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21 and 22 at 6 p.m. The show will be held at New Hope Community Church at 7401 Hanna St., in Gilroy. Anti-Smoking Festival
GILROY – MACSA, a Gilroy youth service organization and Victory Outreach, a Gilroy youth faith-based organization, have joined forces to plan a youth anti-smoking festival on Thursday, Dec. 19 at San Ysidro Park in Gilroy from 3 to 7 p.m. The afternoon events will include music, refreshments, games and prizes. Chevys fund raiser
GILROY – Dine at Chevys on Thursday Dec. 19th and 20 percent of your meal will be donated to South Valley Middle School’s Seventh Grade trip to Yosemite. You must put your receipt in the fund raiser box at the hostess stand for them to receive credit. It’s good all day for lunch and dinner parties. Jacket drive
GILROY – The Community Service Club of South Valley Middle School is holding a jacket drive now through Dec. 20. The club is asking people to donate old jackets and sweatshirts for needy families in the community. Donations can be delivered to the school between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The school is located at 385 I.O.O.F. Ave. For more information, call 848-7185.
Committee Applications
GILROY – Gilroy Unified School District has made applications for its Measure I citizens’ oversight committee available online. Through Friday, Dec. 20, the district will be taking completed applications from interested parties representing several different community stakeholder groups, such as senior citizens, tax payer groups and district parents. Formation of the committee is mandated by Measure I, the district’s $69 million school facilities bond that was passed by voters Nov. 5. The committee’s task is to be a watchdog of district spending and ensure that money form the bond goes to school construction and improvement projects only. Toys for Tots
GILROY – This year the Fire Department is assisting the United States Marine Corps with the annual Toys for Tots Program. The purpose for this program is to collect and distribute Christmas gifts for less fortunate children and children in foster care residing in the South County area. Donations are welcomed at the Chestnut Fire Station and the Las Animas Fire Station. Following the holiday, City Hall will also have a designated area to receive gifts. Details: 846-0370.

GILROY – The Gilroy Assistance League is now selling “Historic Gilroy” throw blankets to raise funds for local youth charities. These throws sell for $60 and make a great Christmas gift. Details: Roz Farotte at 842-2432.
Garlic Festival Art Contest
GILROY – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc., is now accepting entries for the 2003 Art Poster Contest. A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival. In addition, the first-place winner shall receive one of each souvenir food item produced with their artwork. The second-place winner will receive $400 and third place will get $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high-quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 25th Annual Garlic Festival on July 25, 26 and 27. The deadline for entries is

Judicial Arbitrators needed
SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Superior Court is now accepting applications for Judicial Arbitrator volunteers. See CCP 1141.10 et seq. , CA Rules of Court 1600-1618, and Santa Clara Civil Rule 4, which govern the State-mandated program. For applicant qualifications, see CRC 1604. A volunteer arbitrator may receive two to six appointments per year, with each arbitration lasting no more than five hours.
