Gilroy – The South Valley’s most anticipated flower sale takes place Saturday from 8am to 1pm at Goldsmith Seeds, 2280 Hecker Pass Highway.
The world-renown wholesale flower breeder will offer thousands of bedding plants at its annual Gilroy Rotary Club fundraiser. Everything from asters to zinnias will be featured.
The flowers were grown for Goldsmith’s annual Spring Pack Trials, which more than a thousand customers from throughout the world attend. When the customers leave, Goldsmith opens its greenhouses for this once-a-year event. Last year, nearly $50,000 was raised for the Gilroy Rotary Club’s community programs.
Bring a wagon, cart or sturdy bags to carry your purchases. Bring cash and checks because no credit cards will be accepted.
Second auditions For ‘Annie, Jr.’ Friday and Saturday
Gilroy – Gilroy Community Services Department and Rainbow Children’s Theater will hold second auditions for “Annie, Jr.” on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St. On Friday, ages 5 to 10 are invited to audition at 6pm; ages 11 to 14 at 7pm and ages 15 to 18 at 8pm. On Saturday, ages 5 to 10 are invited to audition at 10:30am; ages 11 to 14 at 11:30am and ages 15 to 18 at 12:30pm.
Even those who previously auditioned will need to audition again. Please prepare a short song a capella and come in comfortable clothing. A short dance routine will be taught; no sandals. If there are enough young actors to cast, all participants will get a part.

WERC’s Loki the owl celebrates 17th birthday
Morgan Hill – Join the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center (WERC) on Saturday, from 1 to 3pm for the 17th birthday celebration of Loki, the Great Horned Owl.
Loki is one of WERC’s educational ambassadors, animals which are non-releaseable due to injuries or otherwise unable to survive in the wild. Come and meet Loki and his animal friends, play owl inspired games and have cake and refreshments. There will be door prizes and a goodie bag for everyone.
Donations to help purchase special handling gloves for Loki and his friends would make a great birthday gift from generous guests. Merchandise gift cards are also appreciated. Space is limited, so reservations are required.

Wings of History Air Museum and SC Airport open house in May
San Martin – Aviation enthusiasts can enjoy the Wings of History Air Museum and South County Airport Open House Saturday, May 14, 8am to 4pm.
The event is intended to encourage young people to experience aviation. Free airplane rides will be offered, hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program. Tours through the Wings of History Air Museum feature historical aircraft. Also on display at the airport across the street from the museum will be general aviation airplanes hosted by pilots from SCAPA, the South County Airport Pilots Association.
The Young Eagles program provides an opportunity for youths between 8 and 17 years of age to talk with a pilot, fly in a private plane and learn about exploring our skies.
Sponsored by the EAA, the Young Eagles program is a free activity.
Young Eagle pilots will offer free rides from 10am to 2pm. Parents must accompany participating children to the airport and plane, and sign a release and authorization form. Kids also will be eligible for raffle prizes – including flight lessons.
There’s more. Activities getting under way at the museum site, 12777 Murphy Ave., San Martin, include tethered hot air balloon demonstrations at 6:30am, biplanes, guided tours of the museum, a display of vintage aircraft and more aviation-related events, including plastic model building and flying model construction classes.
Join local astronomers at Pacheco State Park star party
Los Banos – The public is invited to join local astronomers at Pacheco State Park on Saturday April 16 for an evening of star gazing.
Astronomy volunteers will have numerous telescopes available to view the stars, planets, moon, nebula, etc. Viewing will begin shortly before sunset and last until 10pm. Visitors can come any time that evening.
Pacheco State Park is at the top of historic Pacheco Pass. Take the Dinosaur Point exit off of Highway 152, 18 miles west of Los Banos and 22 miles east of Gilroy, and follow the signs. (After exiting from Highway 152, you turn right, going into the park entrance gate.)
Visitors are encouraged to bring warm clothing as it may be chilly. Also, bring any food or drinks you may need, as no services are available at Pacheco State Park. The only fee is the $5 state park day use fee per car.
People are encouraged to come earlier and enjoy a meal at the park’s picnic tables and barbecue grills.
