Renaissance Faire tickets on sale Sunday

Gilroy – Tickets for the Northern California Renaissance Faire will be available on the Internet beginning May 1.

Adult tickets cost $15 online and $20 at the gate. Tickets for children are $10. There are $2.50 in service charges for online tickets, which can be printed at home or picked up at will call.

This year’s Faire will be the second put on by Play Faire Productions, which claims to be the only participant-run fair in the country. Last year’s Faire attracted 41,600 customers, only half the crowd it needs to draw to remain financially viable, according to organizers.

The Faire is scheduled to run for six weekends, from Sept. 10 through Oct. 16. Faire participants will appear at the Los Banos Spring Fair, Saturday, April 30.

Pacheco Pass construction continues

Gilroy – Pacheco Pass will be partially closed from just east of Gilroy foods to Llagas Creek each night through Friday, for striping and safety improvements.

One-half of the road way will shut down each night beginning at 10pm and reopen 4am the following morning.

The road will reopen 6am Saturday.

Comment on the 2006-’07 VTA budget

Gilroy – The public is invited to comment on the proposed 2006-2007 budget for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, Wednesday, April 27, at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.

At the meeting, VTA staff will present an overview of the recommended budget and will take questions from the audience. The VTA is expected to adopt its budget in June.

The meeting will run from 6 to 8pm.

MH council to discuss Coyote Valley updates

Morgan Hill – The Morgan Hill City Council will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss the latest developments in the Coyote Valley Specific Plan.

The council will talk about the environmental review process and discuss future steps for South County agencies. Public comment is welcome.

The meeting begins at 7pm, in the El Toro room of the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road.

Learn about AAUW at membership luncheon

Gilroy – The Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women is holding a Spring Membership Luncheon on Saturday, May 7 to give interested persons an opportunity to learn more about AAUW.

It will be held at Mama Mia’s Ristorante Italiano at 1360-B First St., Gilroy, from 11:30am to 2pm. Guests at the buffet luncheon will have a choice of Chicken Bernardo or Tortellini Pomodoro for a cost of $15 each.

Rhoda Bress, of the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education, will speak on “Making the Grade On A Public School Board: A Parent’s Story”.

Membership in AAUW is open to all persons with a BA or BS degree.

The Gilroy Branch includes Hollister and San Juan Bautista. AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change.
