GILROY
– Gilroy High School welcomes the class of 2007 and transfer
students at its information night on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 7 to
8:30 p.m. at the Gilroy High School Theater. Students and their
parents are invited to attend and learn about academic programs,
extracurricular activities, sports, band and
choir programs, college and career planning and school safety.

Learn to arrange flowers

GILROY – On Saturday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Linda Estill, Gilroy Community Services instructor, will present the basics of floral arranging and design. The new class is designed for those who would like to create attractive bouquets and centerpieces using fresh cut flowers and foliage. Students pay $28 for a class fee (non-residents $33), and an additional $10 the day of class will cover the cost of fresh flowers and foliage, floral foam and plastic container. Volunteers needed

GILROY – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers. Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening. Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk. People interested in volunteering must help out on at least two three-and-a-half hour shifts at the hospital each month. They need to fill out an application, have an interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting. Volunteers must also take a free tuberculosis skin test administered by hospital nurses. Details: 848-4919.

Walk on the Wild Side

MORGAN HILL – Join Dr. Jane Haley, a National Park docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation (WERC) volunteer, for a series of bird walks beginning Saturday, Jan. 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. along Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill. Participants will discover an appreciation for local birds, their habitat, and ecological importance. Additional bird walks will be held on Feb. 8, March 8, April 5 and May 3. Participants can attend one or all of the walks. Due to the terrain, the walks are not recommended for young children. The program is free, and reservations are required. Details:
