Calling for ‘Guys and Dolls’

MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre will be holding open auditions for its upcoming production “Guys and Dolls” on Friday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, Feb. 29 at 1:30 p.m., at the SVCT Warehouse, 8565 Monterey Road. Refresh your driving

GILROY – The AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 28. This one-day classroom refresher for motorists 50 and older will familiarize participants with driver safety, new DMV tests and laws. Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on auto insurance upon completion of the program. No tests will be given. Space is limited so reserve your place in advance. Listen to the music

GILROY – The South Valley Symphony and the Pacific Brass Band will hold a concert on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilroy High School Theater. The program will consist of a wide range of music – from march and patriotic to folk, pop and opera.

Tickets are available at Snappy Photo, California Music Company and Porcella’s Music, as well as at the theater box office an hour before the performance. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens 55 years or older and students aged 12 to 18 are $7. Space is limited so get tickets in advance.

Dance the night away

GILROY – St. Mary’s Youth Group will hold a “Mexican Fiesta,” an adult dinner dance, on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at Cullen Hall, 11 First St. The event will feature a no-host bar, sounds to DJ spinning, an auction and a raffle. Take a faulty walk

GILROY – Join a park ranger for a walk along the Calaveras Fault in Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to about 1 p.m. Bring comfortable clothing, water and a lunch for a trek along the fault where the most recent local earthquake occurred. GILROY – Gavilan College and Community Solutions present Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Mono-logues,” directed by Gavilan student Cherise Mantia, at the Gavilan College Theater on Saturday, Feb. 28 and Monday, March 1, at 7 p.m. “The Vagina Monologues” is an internationally acclaimed play aimed at raising awareness to end violence against women.
