Work outside

GILROY – Do you enjoy working with people and the outdoors? The docent population at Bonfante Gardens, a nonprofit organization, is looking for volunteers who would like to work in a beautiful garden setting. Celebrate music

GILROY – The Gilroy High School Chamber Singers present “Spring Celebration Of Music,” a concert/wine tasting event, on Saturday March 20, beginning at 4 p.m.

The concert will feature four renowned artists from the Bay Area who have donated their performances to help the Chamber Singers go to Germany. In April 2004, the Chamber Singers will be performing in the East German cities of Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden, as well as in the city of Prague in the Czech Republic.

Guest performers will be Maria Armirkhanian, concert pianist, Emil Miland, cellist, Karen McConachie, soprano singer, and Ruth Butterfield-Winter, orchestral pianist. The Gilroy High School Chamber Singers will also be performing. Local fines wines and hors d’oeuvres will also be included in the event. Tickets are $75 per person. The Wise Monkey returns

GILROY – Pacific West Christian Academy in Gilroy will hold its eighth annual Spring Gala Auction and Dinner entitled, “Hollywood … A Night For Our Little Stars” on Saturday, May 8, at the Hayes Mansion, 200 Edenvale Ave. in San Jose. Proceeds will go to benefit the new facility in Gilroy planned to open in September of 2005. Get Footloose

MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Footloose,” directed by Carol Harris, at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, March 19, 20 and 27, and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, March 20, 21 and 27. Hike at Henry

MORGAN HILL – Henry Coe State Park will host hikes beginning at the visitor center. On Saturday, March 20, join Libby Vincent and Diane Scariot at 10 a.m. for a hike of 8 miles or less. The group will choose the destination and difficulty of the hike. Bring water and a lunch. At 8 p.m., the evening program “Natural History of Coe Park” will begin. Join Winslow Briggs as he gives a tantalizing preview of the wonders to be found in the Coe backcountry. British cyclist visits

GILROY – Alastair Humphreys is biking ’round the world and will be stopping in Gilroy. He’s travelling 50,000 miles and across five continents and 50 countries. Plus, he’s doing it alone and on a bicycle – no buses, no hitch-hiking, no support vehicles. He is trying to raise awareness for a nonprofit called Hope and Homes For Children, which provides homes for children in Bosnia.
