GILROY – Gilroy Community Services Department is offering the chance for beginning painters to enhance their skills on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m., Jan. 7 through Feb. 11, at the Willey Cultural Center on Fifth Street across from the Gilroy Museum. Students 16 years old and up will be introduced to watercolor techniques including glazing, dry brush and watercolor washes using pen and ink, as well as watercolor pencils by instructor JoAnne Robinson. New police station

GILROY – A one-hour community briefing on the re-design of Gilroy’s new Police Station will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Gilroy City Hall Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna St. The public is invited to attend. Details: Bill Headley at 846-0450.

Winter Guard fund raiser

GILROY – The Gilroy High School Winter Guard will hold a fundraiser at Chevy’s on Thursday, Jan. 8. The money raised will help the students go the the Winter Guard International Championship in Southern California in April. The fundraiser is for lunch, dinner and take out. Details: Chevy’s at
