Man arrested for attempted murder

• Gilroy – Police arrested a man for attempted murder Saturday in connection with a stabbing at a gas station last Saturday.

Rafael Casas, 24, of 7766 Church St., was taken into custody at 9:30am at First and Church streets and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder and violating parole for his role in the May 7 attack.

The 26-year-old victim in the attack was in the parking lot of Rotten Robbie just before midnight Sunday when he witnessed a fight between Casas and a woman, according to police. He attempted to intervene by telling Casas to “knock it off,” said Gilroy police Sgt. Kurt Svardal.

Casas allegedly then turned to attack the victim, pulling a knife and stabbing him. The victim was treated and released that night.
