Honda in Gilroy for town hall meeting
Gilroy – Representative Mike Honda will conduct a town hall meeting with Gilroy constituents to update them on his legislative priorities. Honda will focus on economic, healthcare and educational matters before Congress, and will welcome constituent input.
The meeting takes place from 7 to 9pm Wednesday, at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.
Deputies seize $45 million in pot
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Deputies arrested 52-year-old Salvador Huitron of San Jose and seized 11,161 marijuana plants.
The 30-man team apprehended Huitron during their continued clearing of Illicit gardens in the Mt. Umunhum area. He was unarmed and was taken into custody without incident on suspicion of cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale.
According to Sgt. Joe Waldherr with the Special Operations Division of the Sheriff’s office, once matured, these plants would have had a street value of more than $45 million.
So far this year, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office Marijuana Suppression Team has seized and destroyed more 42,000 plants. In addition to the marijuana, three suspects have been arrested in raids this year.

‘Totally Rockin’ is back on stage
Gilroy – Return to Egypt as John Bisceglie presents his latest musical adventure. This sequel to “Totally Rockin’ Temple of Boom” will once again allow you to discover an elaborate Egyptian temple. Summer grief support program
Gilroy – Hospice of the Valley presents Celebrating Our Memories: Storytelling through Photos, a summer grief support program to be held on Wednesday evenings, Aug. 9, 16 and 23 from 6 to 8pm. Attend one or all three at $10 per evening for art supplies.

Gilroy – Adults 55 and older can learn new skills and enjoy mind-stimulating activities in a stress-free environment. Topics include arts and crafts, coping with loss, music encounters, music, movement and wellness, film classics, Internet literacy, Tai Chi for arthritis and related illnesses, and Tai Chi for wellness. Classes begin Friday, Aug. 11.
