Luchessa Crossing Closure
GILROY – The railroad crossing at Luchessa Avenue (the crossing spur east of Jamieson) will be closed through Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. This closure will be in effect 24 hours a day. There will be a detour. Details: 846-0450.
Enchilada Sale
GILROY – The Las Rositas Club is holding an Enchilada Sale as a fundraiser for the Gilroy Senior Center. Order your beef enchiladas now, $15 per dozen and $7.50 per half-dozen. Orders are placed at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St., in Gilroy now through Nov. 8, and pickups will occur on Nov. 15. Open Poetry Reading

Community Job Fair

Bowl-A-Thon
GILROY – El Portal Leadership Academy students are trying to raise money for their school by hosting a bowl-a-thon. The bowl-a-thon will take place at Gilroy Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 16. The students are hopeful that local businesses will help their fundraiser by sponsoring a lane, sponsoring a student and/or donate items to be used for prizes. The cost to sponsor a lane is $40. Each lane will advertise the business that sponsors that lane and volunteers will gladly pass out any coupons or advertising material that is provided from that business. The money raised will be used for much needed sports equipment for the students, field trips to colleges and universities, educational theatrical performances and educational conferences. Details:

Veterans Photo Display
GILROY – The fifth annual veteran’s photo display is being planned for this November and December at Gilroy City Hall. This is an opportunity to recognize those Gilroy citizens who have served in the military. One photo of each veteran (living or deceased) taken in uniform during his or her military service will be displayed with a name and brief description of the individual’s service. The exhibit, located in the main hallway at City Hall, will be open to the public from Nov. 4 to Dec. 27 during normal business hours. Each photo submitted will be carefully handled, copied, and the original returned. Mt. Madonna hike
GILROY – Greenbelt Alliance, the Bay Area’s leading land conservation and urban planning nonprofit organization, is sponsoring a hike through Mt. Madonna on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day will start with an easy hike through redwood, madrone and tan oak forests on the broad slopes of Mt. Madonna, and finish with a visit to the Kruse Winery near Gilroy. Details:
