VTA Hires New General Manager
• San Jose – Michael Burns has been appointed the general
manager of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
Currently the executive director of the San Francisco Municipal
Transportation Agency, the hiring was approved by the VTA board of
directors during its Thursday meeting.

• San Jose – Michael Burns has been appointed the general manager of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
Currently the executive director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, the hiring was approved by the VTA board of directors during its Thursday meeting.
Burns will begin his new post Aug. 22, overseeing the VTA’s $340 million annual operating budget and 2,300 employees.
His key responsibilities will include the management of bus and light rail operations and the delivery of the Measure A program, a $4 billion transit improvement plan that includes a BART extension into this county, Caltrain improvements, light rail extensions and enhanced bus service.
“Mr. Burns has the confidence of our board and a strong executive management team to move VTA forward in delivering transportation services and improvements to the residents and workers of Silicon Valley,” said Joe Pirzynski, VTA board chair and Los Gatos councilman.
‘Aladdin Jr.’ runs through June
• Morgan Hill – South Valley Civic Theatre presents children’s show Aladdin Jr. June 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25 at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse.
On Fridays and Saturdays, show times are 8pm. There are matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. The music is by Alan Menken and the lyrics are by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The show is produced by April Ouellette and Jon Reed and directed by Colleen Chipman.
Adult tickets are $15, children, students and seniors are $12.

City Council candidate forum
• Gilroy – City officials will hold an informational session for residents hoping to run for one of three City Council seats this fall.
Topics will include filing deadlines for nomination papers and other campaign-related issues, as well as the responsibilities of serving on the council.
The session takes place Tuesday at 7pm in City Hall, at 7351 Rosanna St.

Help companion animals in need
• San Martin – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) need help to find loving families for the many homeless companion animals currently at the shelter and in foster homes.
