Suspected drunken driver hits
sheriff’s car
Morgan Hill – A suspected drunken driver plowed through an accident scene and struck a Santa Clara County Sheriff Deputy’s vehicle late Thursday night.
Deputies had blocked the scene of a previous accident at the intersection of Monterey Highway and Live Oak Avenue when the driver struck the police vehicle. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was treated for injuries. No one else on the scene was injured, said Santa Clara County Sheriff’s spokesman Serg Palanov.
Residents in the north Morgan Hill neighborhood were drawn out of their houses Thursday evening by all the police activity. Witnesses of the incident said they later saw police vehicles speeding off on Monterey Highway with lights flashing and sirens blaring as if in pursuit. Palanov said he was not aware of any pursuit, but said officers could have been responding to other calls.
