Gilroy Residents Should Really Question Whether We Need Another Mall

Dear Editor,

Do we really need another mall in Gilroy? We currently have a variety of shopping venues such as home furnishings, office supplies, hardware, technology and formal wear, as well as our outlet mall. It is possible now to purchase what you need or think you need in Gilroy.

If it’s not here, we are not that far from a major city like San Jose. Speaking of San Jose, do we want to be like San Jose? Do we want traffic and more traffic? Along with the traffic comes air pollution, loss of time and frustration.

People need food, shelter, and clothing, which we have here in Gilroy. People also need jobs, however, we have plenty of retail jobs. We really need to think about how another mall impacts us, and if it is truly a need. There are also things to consider like loss of fertile farmland and lower groundwater reserves. However, that is another letter. My hope is that everyone really thinks about the many negative aspects of building another mall in Gilroy.

Councilman Says He Never Called Candidate for Mayor of Gilroy a Grandstander

Dear Editor,

“To disagree, one doesn’t have to be disagreeable.”

~ Barry Goldwater

Once again I find myself asking why is Mr. Mark Zappa so disagreeable and were does he get his facts from? In a letter to the editor published on June 16, Mr. Zappa writes, “I find it laughable when … Russ Valiquette accuses Gartman of grandstanding.” Mr. Zappa, there was a story in the June 8 edition of The Dispatch entitled “Gartman, a Watchdog or Grandstander?” in which no quotes from me were printed.

I ran a search of my name and Mr. Gartman’s name and was unable to find any story or opinions were I called Mr. Gartman a grandstander. And I cannot think of any conversation that I have had with you in which I called Mr. Gartman a grandstander. So please Mr. Zappa, if you want to be disagreeable with me, or for that matter any other member of this Council, please attempt to get your facts straight first.

Two Paying for Medical Insurance and It’s Still Not Enough – Ridiculous!

Dear Editor,

My wife and I are doubly insured through both our jobs. You would think this would leave us “for sure, for sure” as far as having our medical bills payed. No such luck. We are constantly battling with the companies to get them to pay.

These companies collect incredible amounts of money from both our employers and deducted from our paychecks. We have had enough. Get these parasites out of the health care business and create a real health care delivery system rather than a corporate profit delivery system.
