Gilroy – The spirit of giving that moved the Eigleberry neighborhood to help one of its families rise out of poverty will now spread to the whole area, as volunteers from two local groups have teamed up for a holiday celebration to benefit dozens of children.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday night, will offer toys to 100 local kids, as well as food, music, a holiday raffle, and a free picture with Santa Claus.
“Watching the kids faces light up when Santa arrives with toys is worth every dollar and minute we contribute to this event,” said Art Barron, president of the Gilroy Eigleberry Neighborhood Association and the mailman who serves the area.
The event was made possible by donations from a number of local businesses. And the benefits may extend farther than that, according to Barron, who expects to have leftover toys that will go to other local organizations.
