On Nov. 5, voters will select a new director for the South Santa Clara Valley Memorial District, a district that falls within Santa Clara County and serves the non-medical social needs of veterans residing in the area. Gilroy is the only incorporated city within the district and includes about 40 percent of the district’s population.
Registered voters are needed to work as Election Clerks and Inspectors. Election clerks will earn $125 each day and inspectors will earn $170 each day. Training is mandatory and participants must attend a training class on two different days. The first class will be offered twice on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The second class will be Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon, or from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“We need as much help as possible,” said South County Election Specialist Edward Morillo. “We want as many people as possible to participate in the process.”
The candidates are incumbent Philip Garcia; retired maintenance worker Robert Armendariz; security supervisor Jesse Sanchez; and Director Gabe Perez of the South Santa Clara Valley Memorial District.
Voting locations for the November election have already been selected but the Santa Clara County Register of Voters is always looking for new voting facilities. Each voting facility will receive $75 for the use of their facility, which will be fully insured by the county.
